A Crafty Treat for Dogs

October 14, 2013 by Joanna Slan

I love owning Bichons. My groomer, Pam, says that Bichons are the only breed capable of real love. (Don't throw things at me! I'm quoting her!)   But Bichons are also prone to a variety of problems, and poor teeth are right up there at the top of the list. They are also very emotionally sensitive. Leaving them behind really makes them upset.   To combat both problems, I've come up with this treat. Using Easy Cheese (otherwise know … [Read more...] about A Crafty Treat for Dogs

Where Are the Paper Versions of the Kiki Books?

October 12, 2013 by Joanna Slan

Last April, my longstanding publisher Midnight Ink decided to discontinue the Kiki Lowenstein Mystery Series. So I am now self-publishing the Kiki Lowenstein Mystery Series. I had self-published other books years ago, so this is will be fine…eventually…although there have been many changes since I founded "Spot On Publishing."I had already mastered the mechanism for putting short stories up on Amazon. They've made it very, very easy, … [Read more...] about Where Are the Paper Versions of the Kiki Books?

How to Create Inchies — and What to Do With Them When You're Done!

September 9, 2013 by Joanna Slan

In my newest Kiki Lowenstein short story, she runs short of craft supplies and ideas. But Kiki never fails her customers, so she came up with a wonderful "make and take" project--inchies! Inchies are one inch by one inch pieces of original art. Typically they are collage art, but that's not always the case. What's so wonderful about inchies? Making them will... Stretch your creative muscle, Use up odd scraps of paper,  Encourage you … [Read more...] about How to Create Inchies — and What to Do With Them When You're Done!

Downton Abbey: The Inside Scoop

April 19, 2013 by Joanna Slan

I have a confession to make--to help me get in the mood to write The Jane Eyre Chronicles, I watch episodes of Downton Abbey. Yes, the period is different, because Death of a Schoolgirl is set in 1820. Death of a Dowager is set in 1821. Downton is nearly one hundred years later, but the sensibility with its emphasis on class and civility is the same. Last week Jessica Fellowes, bestselling author of The Chronicles of Downton Abbey, visited the … [Read more...] about Downton Abbey: The Inside Scoop

The Nine of Wands: Safeguarding My Energy

January 3, 2013 by Joanna Slan

Every year my sister and I host a New Year's Day party at my house. We invite Karen, a local psychic, to come and tell people's fortunes. Karen is completing her dissertation in biology. She's whip-smart and very, very talented. Although she has many psychic talents, Karen prefers to use Tarot cards when working with clients. This year, while Karen was doing my reading, the Nine of Wands showed up. At first glance, it's easy to … [Read more...] about The Nine of Wands: Safeguarding My Energy
