And speaking of cssniug lately I’ve been trying to convince my students (who are high school boys) that they shouldn’t say suck because it’s obscene. They don’t think it is. I reply that it used to be, and still is to older people, so they especially shouldn’t say it to, for instance, me. But I can’t convince them of that without explaining what it used to mean, and I can’t do that.I do remember that (back in the day) in high school I got in the habit of throwing around Yiddish and Italian phrases that I learned from my friends without knowing what they meant. I was pretty mortified when someone finally translated them for me. And no, I’m not saying what the phrases were.
